| Nov 28. Just got back from Morro
Bay. Very cold this morning. Bad
location and poor sales. Check the
review in another day to see the 'world's
smallest lumpia.' This was my last
show of the year and I don't expect to do
anything until the last weekend of January. |
| November 27. Arrived in Morro Bay
around 3:00pm after a rather rainy trip
down. Supposed to be a nice day on
Sunday. Check out my review.
Will complete by Monday AM. |

Morro Bay Street Faire. Sunday,
Nov 28. Not looking forward to setting
up in 35-degree temps on Sunday morning.
Just down the street at 275 Morro Bay Blvd.
is the Rock Expresso Bar (Coffee Shop) where
I plan on picking up some really good coffee
to warm up. Stopped by there in August
and got some coffee and it was pretty
decent. |

2011 Lake Havasu City Winterfest.
Thinking about it. Held Feb 12-13.
Weather is usually pleasant, but I have
encountered some sprinkles and it can be a
little on the cool side. Lots of
people but I did it back in 2008 and people
just walked around.
Here's a link to the application. I
love what it says on #6. "Vendors may
not drain ice chests or other liquids onto
the street until the show has concluded."
Wonderful. I had some idiots at the
Castro Valley Fall Festival (and other
shows) empty their coolers in the street and
water flowed into the booth. Show
consideration!!! |

November 25. Happy Thanksgiving.
Quite cold this morning. Maybe 36
degrees here and lower in some places.
Below 0 up in the Sierras' There have
been people actually camping out since
yesterday at places like Best Buy. Not
me. I'm not that crazy. Don't
have much money to spend anyway. All
systems go for Morro Bay this weekend.
Driving down on Saturday. Supposed to
get showers that day, but supposed to be
sunny on Sunday. |
| Nov 23. Brrrrr. Cold
tonight. Even colder on Turkey
Eve/morning. 34 in Hayward; colder
elsewhere. 30 in Morro Bay? |
| Nov 20. 9:30am. Took a drive
around the corner to Chabot's Flea Market.
Drizzling a bit and quite nippy out there.
Was going to pick up some socks but didn't
see anybody selling any out there.
Perhaps 40 real die-hard sellers out there
braving this ugly day in the pits and they
were quite spread out in 5 rows. I did
not bother getting out of my van.
Quite a number of shopper's cars parked
along the perimeter and I saw around 3-dozen
people walking around. Gosh, this
brings back some memories when we've had to
gut-out days like this freezing our butts
off. Can imagine how things are going
at American High (Fremont), Lynbrook (San
Jose) and the Auburn Mandarin Festival and I
am glad that I am not at any of those shows
today. Anybody care to tell me about
their day today?

| Nov 20. Windows of Opportunity
seemingly exist as far as the weather goes.
I was surprised to see that it wasn't
raining during the 'waking' hours this
morning but I am not sure as to how much
rain will fall in given areas and hopefully
the threat of rain will not scare everybody
away and lower potential sales dramatically. |
| Nov 19. Just checked weather
reports and they are somewhat contradicting.
Weather.com is showing rain for most of Sat
& Sun (Bay Area & Auburn); however,
Accuweather shows some periods of NO RAIN
during the afternoons this weekend. I
guess we'll have to play it 'by ear.'
I'll be home regardless. |
I was in Yuba City this weekend and I
missed the action; maybe 8 blocks from the
motel and about a mile from the show.
Two teen girls from River City High streaked across
the Friday night football game vs. Yuba City
High and are facing criminal charges of
indecent exposure along with school
expulsion. The students ran their naked
marathon in front of 5,000 spectators at the
opponent’s field.
Here's the video. After
looking at the girls, yes I can call that
indecent exposure too!

MOUNTAIN MANDARIN FESTIVAL
Auburn, CA November 21-22
Good luck with the show this coming weekend.
Rain is forecast Fri-Sat-Sun. Don't
get too wet. Here's your weather
report. High 50 Low 36 on Sat. Brrrr.
We're not doing the show because they never
gave us a good spot and I am not throwing
away my money. Last time we did it was
in 2007.
Here's
some shots. Check out our newest
page - Looking back.

exploits at the Sierra Grill in Auburn.

| Nov 15. Resting up this following
weekend after two rough indoor shows in a
row. Supposed to rain. Heading
down to Morro Bay for their Street Faire on
the last Sunday of the month and maybe I can
salvage some sales. Good luck
everybody. |
| Nov 15. Was out there on the Obese
Highway in Yuba City for Hell in November.
Couldn't even catch the $75 booth fee.
Not too much money up here. Ouch.
Here's what I have to say. |
| Hayward Hills Swap Meet and Flea Market.
New. Every Sunday. 25976 Carlos
Bee Blvd. Parking Lot H, Hayward, CA
94542. $30 - each space is the size of
3 parking spaces - approx. size is 18'x27'

Free Admission. Great bargains.

Nov 13-14.
Stockton Hmong (Laotian) Festival.
Booth fees are $200. Not Bad.
Here's a few items from their contract.
Good idea to keep knives, etc., away from
gang members and also a good idea to keep
your booth clean 'Every day of the New
Year.' Sounds to me like anybody can
set up a churro table next to their booth.
I can see it now.... 75 people selling
churros. Anyway, there was a time that
I considered doing one of these shows
(Hmong) but I've been told that the people
do not buy. Might be worth it just to
go and see the pretty women.
18. All knives,
wooden, plastic or sharp objects must be
securely locked and store away from passerby
when is not in use to help prevent gang
member from grabbing to use as weaponry.
19. Vendors will
be responsible for cleaning up the area
around his or her booth and within his/her
booth every day of the New Year.
20. Any vendor
wishing to sell churros or set up an
additional small table outside of his/her
booth will be charged an additional $100.

Nov 8. Horrendous weekend at the
Holiday Crafter's Faire located inside the
Pavilion at the San Jose Flea Market on
Berryessa. Two sales on Sat and four
sales on Sunday. Two ladies got caught
selling 'knockoff' purses on Saturday and
were booted from the event. Had decent
crowd on Saturday but zombied around.
Rain on Sunday and many vendors were packing
early.
You can read my review.

knockoffs at Galt, etc. |
| Nov 6. Holiday Crafters Faire.
SJFM. Terrible. Absolutely one
of my worst days ever. Two sales all
day long. |

Heading up to Yuba City for Christmas in
November on Nov 13-14. Expecting to
set up indoors at the Yuba-Sutter
Fairgrounds on Friday. Weather
forecasts are looking good with temps in the
60's. We have done the
Bok Kai Festival in Marysville
previously.

The
Orinda Holiday Bazaar is on Saturday,
Nov 6. Something is wrong with this
picture.
Saw this on Craig's List. 'The
Holiday Bazaar has enjoyed enormous
community support over the years, and
strives to make an attractive and profitable
venue for the vendors at this historic
landmark with its wide promenade outside,
several meeting rooms and a large
auditorium'
Looked to me a few years back that the
community DID NOT support this event. This
was not a profitable venue as several
vendors did not have any sales the entire
weekend. I guess they have to say that
so they can get vendors. Not me,
that's for sure. However, all in all,
these organizations involved do put together
a super effort and I wish them luck. |
| Nov 5. Bad hair day, I guess.
Having technical difficulties with this
software. Will start a new 'November'
Daily Dose page later today. |

Filled up at COSTCO for $2.98 per gal.
Chevron is going for $3.21. Got around
18 gallons so I saved $4.14. Whoopie.
Prices continue to fluctuate between
$3.19-$3.27. There is cheaper gas out
there, but my van gets fussy. My
COSTCO membership expires this month and I
don't feel like renewing. Know what I
mean? |

HOLIDAY FAIRE
Nov 5. Heading down to San Jose to set
up for the Holiday Faire in the Pavilion
inside the Flea Market. Not a great
show, but I shall be indoors when it rains
on Sunday. Got two spaces so I can
spread out.
Here's my report from last year. That on
the left was my lunch from last year.
It was good. Super Grande Burrito,
fries and a Coke. |
Nov 4. Meg Whitman, I am so happy
that you lost. You spent $142 million
in your failed attempt. Here is what
your EBay did to me over $5.19. Can
you believe that shit. I am sure that
if you had won, you would have changed the
laws so that you would make well in excess
of $200 in short term gains. $5.19,
etc. Can you believe this crap. You
spent over $140 Million for your own selfish
gains and you and your people put my EBay account on hold for a
measly $5.19. I'll bet you would run
this state the same way..
Anyway,
It's nice to watch TV without seeing all
those stupid $$(#%#( ing commercials every
five minutes. All that money gone to
waste.
Your account has been put on hold because
the US $5.19 balance on your eBay account
hasn't been paid. |

IT'S THAT SPRING FORWARD FALL BACK TIME OF
YEAR AGAIN. Saturday night at 2:00
(actually Sunday morning at 2:00) So,
don't be surprised when it gets darker
Sunday evening a bit sooner. That's
the part I hate. Will have to 'wind my
way' through the darkened rows as I head out
of the Berryessa Market, where I will be for
the Holiday Fair inside the Pavillion there.
Not a good show, but what else can you do
when you can't get into the 'better' A&C
shows. |
Nov 1. Wow. Already into
November. The weather was beautiful
yesterday in Los Osos and that helped bring
out the people. Nice show. 95
vendors including non-profit, food, etc.
Maybe a dozen no-shows. You
can read my review.
There was an
Italian Festival at a cemetery in Colma.
Heard that there was around 200-300 (live)
people there. Kinda dead, don't ya
think? 20-30 vendors with
entertainment. I heard that this was
an enjoyable show, but nobody made any
money. Whoops. One person
(organization) made money and that was not a
vendor. I don't think that you can
hold an (successful) Italian Festival in a
cemetery. |

WELCOME TO BYOTP
FESTIVALS
(bring your own toilet paper)
Don't be caught with your pants down.
|
| Oct 27. Did anybody out there do
Dia De Los Muertos Festival in Oakland this
past Sunday. Booth fees were $125-300
for the one-day event held on four blocks of
E12th St. I wouldn't dare do this
show. It's usually packed with people
and there might be vendors who do good, but
I have heard a lot of bad things about it.
We did it twice before, with the last time
doing it, believe it or not, was the day
after I retired from the post office in
2003. Lots of theft going on and you
really have to watch your stuff. Turn
your back and your stuff is gone. If
anybody out there did it, tell me about it.

Oct 27. Went over to
Jeffrey's Burgers on B St. in San Mateo.
Got a Mushroom Burger ($7.49) and it was
pretty good. Put on quite a few
mushrooms. My son got the Avacado
Burger and said it was very good.
Onion rings and garlic fries were good also.
Had seen this place when we did the Italian
Festival in July and I was told that the
food was pretty good. I rate this
place better than Sam's Burgers in San
Leandro but not sure if it's better than
Val's Burgers in Hayward. Haven't been
there in awhile but many people claim it to
be the best in the East Bay. Check out
this website which lists a bunch of burger
places here in NOCAL.

Anyone have anything to say about the

A SHOCKING
DISCOVERY SHOWS FILIPINO FESTIVAL MAKING A
POWER-PLAY BY
CHARGING $500 FOR ELECTRICITY.
Nov 20-21. Great American Rip Off.
Fiesta Filipina 2010 held at the Cow Palace.
I guess that vendor spaces are $1000. NFW.
The thing that got my eye is that they are
charging $500 for electricity. Have
you ever seen a rip-off as big as this?
Read it for yourself. Can you
believe this crap? We did this event
many times but we were priced out of it.
Click on the image to see the contract.
OMG they are even charging $15 for a
(*&^&#@* ing ID badge. Consider
yourself gouged. If you have something
to say let me know and I'll put it here.
comments@starvingvendors.com
They were supposed to have held the event
back in June at Civic Center Plaza but the
were negligent in reserving the area.
Remember when they had those big TV screens
showing the World Cup there in June.
They they planned on having the festival on
Oct 9-10. They cancelled their plans.
Now it's on for Cow Palace. I thought
that this was an indoor venue but on their
website they say "This is by far, the Bay
Area and California’s grandest outdoor
cultural festival celebration."
Outdoors at the Cow Palace? In
November? I don't know, man.
Something wrong here. People will do
anything to make money off 'us'. |

Oct 27. If you were planning on
doing January festivals in Yuma, you better
check again. No more Jubilee/Heritage
Days in early January. Lettuce Days
has been changed to March 11-13. I was
considering going out there in January, but
I can kiss that idea goodbye. Chandler
(AZ) Ostrich Festival is the same weekend
and there is now way in hell am I doing that
one. Still hasn't been fixed - booths
located in a gulley where traffic flow is
terrible. |
| Oct 26. Looks like rain this week.
Showers this weekend in the Bay Area.
Heading down to Los Osos for Octoberfest on
Sunday and weather looks okay down there.
Considered doing the Italian Festival at a
Cemetery in Colma. An ad on Craigslist
said that 200-1000 would attend the event.
No way Antonio. I need more people
than that. |

OCT 25. TAFT OILDERADO DAYS was
this past weekend. The weather was
okay but quite a bit of clouds. No
rain down there. Perhaps 100 vendors.
Motel and gas expenses killed part of our
profit but we didn't fair too bad.
You can read the review now. |
| Oct 22. Drove down to Taft,
located out here in the West Boonies.
A number of vendors set up today. Show
starts tomorrow at 9:00am. Weather
looks okay. |
| October 21. Had some sprinkles
here in Hayward around 5:30pm. Hope
that's all we get. Supposed to be
clear sailing down the '5' tomorrow, heading
to Buttonwillow and then Taft.
Planning on setting up my canopy, etc.,
around 4:30. The weather looks fine
throughout the weekend down there. |

2010 UKIAH PUMPKINFEST
October 18. Read about the incredible
magno-man, vivacious, titillating belly
dancers. See the 'world's smallest
Bratwurst sandwich. Hear how the
Chamber of Clobbers, I mean Commerce handles
a disabled lady wishing to use their toilet
facilities. It's all there. How
did the vendors make out? Hear what
one of the best motel deals in town is.
What was the weather like? You can
read it all in the review.
Please click here. |
 |
|
Oct 15. Sitting in our motel up
here in Ukiah. Great deal at Economy
Inn, just a few blocks from the festival.
Paying around $39 per night for two people.
Microwave, refrig, Wi-Fi, a good TV, large
table, etc. Saved $40 from what I would have
paid down the road at Motel 6.
Coffee-maker in here also.
|
| Oct 14. Deja Vu all over again.
Strange. Last year I was up in Ukiah
at Motel 6 and the touchpad on my laptop
went out. Would not left or right
click. Went nutso on that Friday night
trying to use it. The next day I found
out that there was a Staples about four
blocks down from the motel and I picked up
one. During the past week I have been
having trouble with my mouse and really
couldn't get it to work. Heading up to
Ukiah again tomorrow, so I went over to
Office Depot and bought one. |
|
Oct 13. Supposed to be 94 degrees
here in Hayward. Cooling down over the
next couple days and we should be looking at
temps of around 77 up in Ukiah for the
weekend. Supposed to be mostly sunny
on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday.
Can anybody explain the difference between
this mostly sunny/partly cloudy stuff. Uhhhhh.... aren't they the same. If
it's mostly sunny then isn't it partly
cloudy. Or if it's partly cloudy
then doesn't it have to be mostly sunny.
This is not rocket science.
 |
|
OUTLOOK FOR TAFT NEXT WEEKEND (Oct
23-24) OILDERADO DAYS. Looks like
sunny with temps in the low 70's. I
know that few people have done this
event before because it's held every
four years. I wonder why. Nothing
much else around, so a bunch of us
are going to give it a shot. I wish
us all good luck down there...... or
wherever the heck the place is.
Heard that it's sold out. I wonder
just how many people will attend. Actually,
how many will buy? Are they
coming by the busloads from Bakersfield?
Just hope the busses aren't yellow.

2010 Pumpkin Festival in Half Moon Bay
is coming up on Oct 16-17.
I guess this is one of the top festivals in this area
and draws over 200,000 visitors.
Better get there early because traffic backs
up on Highways 92 and One. I checked
it out a number of years ago and it happened
to have been raining that Sunday morning.
Not many people there yet. I guess
it's totally arts and crafts but not quite
confident that all this stuff is actually
made by these 'artists.' I couldn't
get in with my product lines of course, but
it is a nice event to walk around in. |

This coming weekend is
the second anniversary of the last EOS
Winery A&C Fair in Paso Robles which occured
on Oct 18-19, 2008.
We came back on Sunday
and of course, it was slow in the morning.
Actually, nobody walking around. NO BODY
for quite a while. A ghost town? A
cemetary? That about sums it up because it
seemed like one. People in a very somber
mood. Depressing. The vendors tried to
keep their heads up and hopes alive, but
there is only so much you can do. Cemetary?
Epitath should read: THEY HIT ROCK BOTTOM
on Sunday, October 19, 2008. Dearly beloved we are
gathered here today to entomb the 25 vendors
who gave it their best.....etc.

Ukiah Pumpkin Festival is coming up this
weekend, Oct 16-17. Stumble on over
and check it out.
Read my review from 2009. Here's a
comment I made:
'People
in general tended to be one's escaping the
harsh realities of life and living in a
world of their own. I noticed quite an
assortment of character's who seem to have
exhiled themselves from the Bay Area.
Perhaps many of them found their way over
there from the Mendocino Marijuana Fields.
They seem to be 'the people that time forgot.'
 |
| Oct 9. Was in Pacifica for Alma Heights
Christian Academy Flea Market. There was a
fair share of people there along with some
160 vendors. I think they did a good job
with the event, even though I might question
the amount of advertising and wonder how
they promoted this. My sales were not
great, but I am somewhat satisfied. The
weather was some of the best I have ever
experienced there. Absolutely no fog or
clouds. Temps in low 70's and no wind.
You can read my report. |

For those of you doing the Rio Vista
Bass Derby. Watch out for the 50-year
old blond lady on the white stallion (or
whatever). When I was there a few
years ago, she rode her horse down the
street and it dumped all over the place,
including some loads two feet in front of my
booth. She really has no concern.
She thinks that it's kind of cute. The
kids would be petting the horse while it's
dumping. Euuuuuuuuu!! |

Oct 8. Drove past the Chevron Gas
Station near Southland and saw that the
price rose to $3.17 OVERNIGHT.
Yesterday, it was $3.09 and two days before
it was $3.07. People, we are in deep
shit again. Of course, there is
cheaper gas around. Valero, etc.?
Looks like COSTCO on Hesperian is at $2.89.
Much cheaper. |
| Oct 8. This weekend is the Rio
Vista Bass Derby. Looks like decent
weather for that one. I've done it
twice and the last time we were there, the
strong winds took out the front corner of
one of my two canopies and the cover came
undone and exposed my merchandise.
Kind of slow there. Also, this weekend
is the San Carlos Art and Wine Festival and
I might drop by on Sunday and see what's
around. Good luck everybody. I'm
in Pacifica. Hope we get some sunshine
and just a little bit of wind. |

Oct 7. San Francisco Giants take

FLASH BULLETIN. Hayward DMV office

Thank you Arnold. |

It's time for Alma Heights Christian
Academy's Flea Market in Pacifica on
Saturday, October 9. It has been one
year since the last time we did the event
and my canopy collapsed. Unbelievable,
I must say. And it happened with no
wind. The weather looks okay for the
weekend.

year's show. |

Oct 4. Well, it's the morning
after the 2010 Sunnyvale Octoberfest and we
are all recovering from the event. The
people just did not come and those that did
just strolled around. Very bad weekend
for the vendors. The Sunnyvale A&W Festival
here draws huge crowds but this one sure
didn't.
You can read my story on it. Nothing
much. |
 |
|
Well, here we are at another doozie.
Hate to say this, but the Rocktoberfest in
Sunnyvale is pretty bad. I don't think
that this is the right area for a festival
as there is quite a bit of construction
going on and I don't think that a lot of
people know about it. Crowds very
small. Read my review on Monday. |
| Will be in
Pacifica at Alma Heights Christian Academy
Flea Market on Saturday, October 9.
Did this event last year and it was just
so-so. Trying it again. Nothing
much else to do. Could be foggy, cool
and/or windy. Take your pick.
Quite a good number of vendors. A few
years ago, vendors were making money.

October 2-3. Will be at
Rocktoberfest in Sunnyvale in space 910.
Stop by and check things out. The
weather looks okay for this weekend.
This is the first time we have done this
event and it's located right around Evelyn
Ave. and Francis Ave. in Sunnyvale just off
Mathilda. Click on the picture to the

TIP OF THE WEEK: Bring your dog
repellant. |

October 1 already. Hindsight is
20-20. I think that I blew it last
weekend. I can't get into the F'ing
Fog Festival, but I should have done Taste
of Morgan Hill. Only 45 miles from
home; no motel stay and 50+ miles closer
than Aintwater. Damm. Like us
Red Sox fans say - Wait till next year. |

|
|
September 27. Damm. It's
hotter than hell all over the place.
Would you believe 111 degrees in Los Angeles
this afternoon. Hayward was in the
90's. Opened the windows last night
and we had a slight cool breeze. Up
around 90 on Tuesday and things will cool
down to the 70's by the weekend.
Summer over? |
| September 26. I did the Atwater
Fall Festival this weekend and it was really
terrible.
Sunday was my worst day of the year and it
was around 95 degrees to make it worse.
Wish I was in Pacifica where they had tons
of people. Actually, we had tons of
people in Atwater, but we are talking about
a different kind of tonnage. Gross
tonnage.
You can read all about it. |

Newark Days. Sep 18-19.
Had to choose between
this event and Cambria. From what I
have heard from vendors in Newark, this
event turned out to be a real genuine doozie
also. I probably would have ended up
with a better net profit here, but I
wouldn't have made much. They had a lot of
people here, but they just weren't
interested in buying. Care to tell me
about it?
comments@starvingvendors.com |
| Sep 20. So much for Cambria.
No photos this week. A terrible show
and we might even call this one a 'doozie.'
Check
out the review of the show. My
worst show ever in Cambria. Very nice
area and the tourists were out, but
they did not come to the A&C Fair. |
| Sep 17. Drove to Cambria this
afternoon. Sunny along Hwy 101.
Extremely cloudy and foggy in Morro Bay.
Occasional sunshine along the coast.
Cambria has quite a bit of overcast. |
 |
|
Heading down to Cambria for the third
time. Weather looks fair with temps in
the mid-60's and kind of cloudy, as usual.
Selling at the A&C Fair in the Amer Legion
Lot. |

Watching 'The Fugitive' TV series from
NETFLIX. It's in Black and White, of
course. Hard to believe this was

has passed. Almost 50 years ago.
One of my favorite TV shows back then and
now.

Whitman Breaks All-Time Campaign Spending
Record
Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate for
California governor, has surpassed New York
Mayor Michael Bloomberg for the highest
personal contribution in American campaign
history. ribution late Tuesday, bringing her
personal donation to $119 million.
Don't you see something wrong with this?
That's a hell of a lot of money that could
have been spent elsewhere. Look at all
that money being used to bash Brown. |
 |
|
OKAY YOU GUYS. Channel 2 said
showers on Saturday and Weather.com says
partly cloudy with temps around 69.
Who the heck do you believe. For
Cambria, mostly cloudy, partly cloudy,
whatever. Temps in low 60's. |

CASTRO VALLEY FALL FESTIVAL. Sep
11-12. Great weather with plenty of
sunshine and temps in the 70s. Fewer
booths though and a smaller crowd than in
past years. Read about my nasty
neighbors in my review. |

ALIEN SPACESHIP CRASHES IN SAN BRUNO
near Skyline Blvd. Huge fire.
Dozens of homes destroyed. Actually,
at approx 6:15 there was a huge explosion
near the corner of Highway 35 and San Bruno
Avenue. Looks like a gas explosion;
originally they thought it was an aircraft. |

BAD NEWS. Just looked at the
forecast for next Friday on Weather.com and
saw showers for next Friday. Maybe
yes. Maybe no. Stay tuned.
That was for Hayward and Cambria.
Looks like we are going to have some
crappy-ass weather in the coming months.
I checked Accuweather.com and that is
showing temps in the 70's and sunny.
Krazy, huh? |

CASTRO VALLEY FALL FESTIVAL is
coming up this weekend on the boulevard.
Our space is located near WAMU at the
entrance to the parking lot.

Weather should be okay this year. Last
year we had rain Sat morning and late Sun
afternoon. |
| September 7.
This weather is pretty crazy. I don't think
we saw the sun today and our high must have
been in the low-60s. Very weird summer
this year. Reminds me of Oregon,
probably similar to Florence.
Actually, I don't mind it and I prefer this
to our 85-90 degree days we sometimes (but
seldom) have. Just as long as the
rains don't come until the end of November
or later. |
ALL IN A DAYS WORK.
This
happened in Myrtle Point
at the Coos County Fair last summer.
Power to the motor home went out,, broke my
sunglasses, zipper broke on the canopy covers, wife
lost sunglasses, had to wait 45 minutes for UPS
delivery truck (for a package from home with my
bills), slow sales today, customer found broken
zippers on two bags, ran out of water in the motor
home, lost my free internet connection (fair now
charging me an unfair $19.95 until Sunday).

CASA DE FRUTA September 4-6, 2010
Click here to read the review.
It was a beautiful weekend as far as the
weather goes, except for the morning fog on
Highway 152. The crowds were about average
here on Sat and Sun. Much less on Monday.
There were a number of tourist buses that
stopped by, but your guess is as good as
mine as to where they ventured off to. |

Bedbugs put stop on mail delivery
Rain, sleet, and snow can't stop postal
carriers from completing their rounds -- but
the fear of bedbugs has halted mail
delivery. The decision to stop delivering
mail to the Warren West Apartments came last
week, after a mail carrier encountered
exterminators in the lobby, postal officials
said. When the carrier was informed the
building was being sprayed for bedbugs, she
decided to stay away |

Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off,
Victorian Square, Sparks, Nevada Sep 1-6.
Looks like this is the best show over the
holiday weekend. Wish I was there.
Six days is a long time but most of the
vendors there will make some money. As
for me? Oh gosh. I will one of
the 45 or so 'invisible' vendors at Casa de
Knappa in Hollister. Good luck,
people. Sparks temps range from 82-95.
Casa de Fruta in the mid-70s. Today
(Thursday) we'll have temps of 91 here in
the Bay Area. |

Animals are known to act strangely or become

Is there one due?
Police Shoot Mountain Lion In Berkeley's
'Gourmet Ghetto'
Berkeley Police gunned down a 100-pound
mountain lion romping through the city’s
"Gourmet Ghetto" early Tuesday morning, just
blocks from Alice Waters' famed Chez Panisse
restaurant. Police said they had no choice
but to shoot and kill the animal. |

August 31. Summer will make another
one-day appearance here in the Bay Area as
it's supposed to hit 95 on Wednesday.
Can you imagine living on the East Coast and
having a show over the Labor Day weekend?
You'd be sweating out this hurricane, which
is not expected to make landfall but will
bring heavy rain and winds to affected
areas. |

August 30. The Niles Antique Faire
and Flea Market was yesterday. I guess
that a bunch of the people set up around
2-3:00am. Much too early for me.
Please read the review. |

2010 Oakland Chinatown Street Fair
was this past
weekend. I was told that
there were a lot of people walking around,
of course. The only people that seemed to be
making any money are the food vendors and
Chinese DVD vendors. There were long lines
of Chinese people waiting for the free stuff.
We sold at this event many year's ago and I
would recommend to anybody that you
shouldn't sell at ethnic events unless you
have products specifically for them. |

BRING YOUR DOG OVER
TO GRETCHEN MALKOWSKI'S DOG WASH where you
can get your dog washed for free from head
to toe, nose to butt. Get a thorough
cleansing with her deep-cleaning K-nine
grime and slime remover. She is
selling her amazing cleanser at
$123.99 for a 25-gallon container.
Works great. Warning: Do not use
near cigarettes, cell phones or spark
inducing gadgets as it may cause your dog
to.... well, kind of explode.

2010 GROVER BEACH STONED SOUP MUSIC
FESTIVAL
being held this weekend (Aug 28-29).
Located south of Pismo Beach. Looks
like it's going to be on the cool side with
temperatures hovering around a cloudy-60
degrees. Brrrr.
Check out my review from last years event. |

August 25.
Attacks
at Iowa State Fairgrounds.
Des Moines police are trying to determine
what led to a series of attacks outside the
Iowa State Fairgrounds over the weekend that
included the assault of two police officers.
At least three people were arrested Friday
through early Monday morning. Other arrests
may occur as officers investigate the
incidents, officials said. There are
indications that some of the fights - which
appear to involve mostly teenagers and young
adults - were racially motivated, police
said. |
HOT HOT HOT.
Temperatures to near 100 degrees in Hayward.
Hotter than hell out in the valley's, South
Bay, etc.
Summer has finally arrived here in the East
Bay as we have been dealing with much
overcast during the mornings for a couple
months. Temps will be plummeting in a
couple days and we will be back in the 60's. |

| August 23. Isn't
it amazing that we have so many perspectives
on these shows. We have events like the
Zucchini Festival in Hayward, the Adobo
Festival in Sacramento, Pescadero Arts and
Fun Festival where the visitors will all say
they had a great time, ate lots of food and
enjoyed the entertainment. Then there
are the vendors who had very few sales and
barely escaped some of these events with
little or no profit for the many hours.
The promoters? I do not think that the
Zucchini festival is a great money maker and
sincerely think that their income is
minimal. These Adobo Festivals totally
gouge the vendors. I don't know what a
'happy medium' is anymore. You really
have to look at each event separately and
'judge accordingly.' |

ARE THE RAINS COMING?
August 23. Watched the news
today at noon and they mentioned that there
could be rain on Saturday night or Sunday
morning. Beware. I doubt it and if
does rain, it will be up north. Nonetheless,
with all this weird weather we have been
having these past couple month, an early
rain would not surprise me. There's nothing
in our local internet forecasts about rain. |

SUNDAY, August 30. NILES FLEA
MARKET.
With no show scheduled for this
weekend, I decided upon trying this one.
Had heard about it for years. I've
been told that its pretty decent and it'
packed with people. I will be located
in the Parking Lot and I hope it's not off
the 'beaten path.' |

August 23. The Hayward Zucchini
Festival is over and done with.
Read
review.
The head zookeeper in charge of the gate
approached my car and I opened my door.
I showed him my pass and he wasn't happy
with that. We had received these 6x10 orange
'vendor passes' in the mail. Not
good enough. So, he next asked me for
my map (which had been sent to me weeks
before). Once again I pointed to the vendor
pass on my dash. "What's going on
here?" I took my map out and handed it
to him.

Be sure to read my review of the
Stockton Filipino Barrio Fiesta.
'He looks at
the bag that she wanted and as he is pulling
out his money, he says that all he has is
$6.50. I frowned and told him I'd sell
it to him for that price. All of a
sudden, this guy pulls out a twenty. I
was shocked. He intentionally fooled
me into thinking that he had no more money
and I was being nice to him.'(read more) |

August 20. Setting up for the Hayward
Zucchini Festival this afternoon. The
event is open from 9:30am-7:30pm both days,
Saturday and Sunday. Admission is
$5.00; reduced for kids, but don't come over
and break my things. DandL Creations
shall be in space#135, across from the kids
play area. |

"Watching
40, 50, 60 canopies go flying up in the air
all at once was something to behold as I had
never seen anything close to this in all of
my 17 years selling at festivals, fairs and
other events. My two canopies were now
crumbling mercifully to the ground right in
front of my eyes as I stood right there in
the 70 mile-per-hour winds and heavy rain,
helplessly watching in complete awe. This
would be a day that I would remember for the
rest of my life."
