SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LIMITS HIGHWAY SPEEDS TO 30 MILES AN HOUR

San Diego, CA.  Due to the huge influx of illegal aliens crossing over the border and running across highways, Governor Arco Swartznodder has lowered the speed limits to 30MPH on ALL highways located between Los Angeles and the Mexican border effective immediately.  The action comes after an incident where 42 illegals were run into by a large semi-truck moving at 93 miles per hour.  The owner of the Pleasant Valley Trucking Company expressed his remorse and has reprimanded the driver responsible

"We are trying to make the roads of Kaulifornia safer for evry boady." commented the governor during a press conference before exiting the room for a trip to the bathroom.  "I'll be bock!" he said rushing away holding himself.

ROAD HAZARDS

getting there is half the fun?  Well..... sort of

Ever drive down a highway and have a 4x8 sheet of plywood come heading toward your windshield.  That happened to me two years ago when I was heading up Highway 50 to Lake Tahoe to do a show.  I was in back of a semi and he had slowed down to climb a hill.  I looked all around me as I prepared to change lanes and pass him.  Suddenly I saw a piece of plywood coming flying toward me.  It did not come from a passing truck because nobody went by me.   It had to have come flying over from the opposite lanes and they were quite some distance from me.  It caromed off my hood and flew up and over my van and landed on the side of the highway.  Amazing.  That was a close call.  I exited the highway and just found a little nick.  That was it.

We all have to try to remain alert on our trips to events, etc.  Get enough sleep.  Don't use your cell phone.  Don't eat while you drive.  Don't engage in heated conversations with passengers such as wives and mother-in-laws.

Over the past several years, I have had a bouncing tire go sailing past the front of my car while going downhill on Highway 5 near Castaic.  I saw the tire come off a truck's back left side in front of me off to the right and bounded across 3 lanes of medium traffic. I was shocked.  I've had a good-sized box in my lane on Highway 4 heading to Antioch and had to swerve to my left to avoid it.  Another time, I was heading south on 99 toward Fresno and as I headed around a curve, I spotted a car stalled out in my lane.  I saw the guy in front of me quickly swerve to the right and I followed suit.

I am constantly having close calls on the highways and I really try to remain alert for my trips.
Not only do we have to watch out for crazy driver's but we need to keep a close eye on those obstacles that we come across on the highways.

STRONG WINDS TORMENT VENDORS IN THE VALLEY

I was at the Ceres Street Fair on May 1-2 and had to deal with very strong winds on Sunday.  Seemed like the gusts were in the 40-50mph range, but I checked some weather websites and saw that the winds were only around 30mph.  Gosh, it was enough to topple some canopies here in Ceres and also in Lodi at the Street Fair, 50 miles to the north.

When the winds are blowing like that, there is very little you can do.  You are at their mercy  Several vendors removed their tops, but I wasn't able to do so. If I unfastened it at the corners I figured that it had two ways to do with the direction of the wind.  It could go sailing up into a tree nearby or it would head for the aisle in front and possibly tangle around people passing by.  Not a good thing to do.  Only thing I could do was to park my  my van alongside my canopy and that cut down some of the wind.  That did work somewhat as it blocked the wind from entering the lower part of the canopy but did little to prevent the top from ballooning upward.
