t was pretty much dead on Friday morning and people didn't start showing up until noon time. Seemed like mostly tourists and they weren't buying much. Lots of kids with the 'itchy finger syndrome.' It was sunny most of the day with arriving and departing clouds. Winds picked up closer to noontime and increased in velocity throughout the day and kept up well into the night. Our canopy stayed intact, but the wind was whipping the top cover up, down, left, right, etc.
Spaces here are quite reasonable. $75-100 for a 10 ft x 20 ft (deep) space.
On Saturday there was a larger crowd and sales were better. The weather was okay, except we had to deal with the wind again, which was relentless all day long. Never have I had a show with so much wind. Everybody was pretty well secured and quite a few canopies were tied to cars in back of the booths.
Sunday was pretty bad. The weather was a bit better overall, but the winds picked up around 10:30 and kept up for the rest of the day. It was stronger than the past two days and was because I had the sides up on the canopy, it was jolting it around quite a bit. So during the afternoon, I pulled down the top half of the sides and let the wind blow through... a bit of an improvement.
However, the bottom line.... sales. Very slow and much fewer people and of course, a late Sunday crowd. Welcome to San Dunes Ghost Town of Winchester Bay. This could be the last time for this event...mainly I just don't want to deal with the wind like this. Relentless. Terrible. Never saw three days of ferocious winds like this before at a show.
Next year, We might be at the Cottage Grove (OR) Bohemian Days Mining Festival, a 4-day event that draws a larger crowd and warmer, calmer weather. Without the winds, Winchester Bay is decent, but I just can't deal with strong winds like that.
