Saturday, Sep 6. Arrived
there around 7:30 this morning and completed setting up. I guess that you can
truly refer to this event as a 'Seafood Festival' because there are a
lot of food vendors selling seafood. Even saw somebody selling
'Alligator on a Stick.' No thank you,
There were a lot of cars passing 'unsafely' in front of our booth using
two lanes of traffic. After talking to my neighbor (vendor), I
turned around and landed on top of the hood of a car, which had stopped
quickly. I glanced over at the Chinese lady driver and saw her
looking toward her right, pretending not to notice what happened.
Can you believe that? There was no room in front of my booth and I
had been talking to my neighbor and this lady tried to squeeze through.
Wow. I should have hit the ground on that one. Lots of
people driving carelessly. That would have been good for at least
$20,000?
Vendors on the whole, did not do very good and it
was a very hot day, with temps reaching 101 during the afternoon.
Lots of people, but they were mostly heading for the food and
entertainment areas, bypassing the vendors. We were
able to meet expenses today, but by default. We had NO
SHADE...trees in back of us, but the sunshine came from the front. Just so many people
there, you have to make a little money at least. I would believe it if you told me
here were 30,000-40,000 people there today. Loads of people and if
this were many years ago, I'd still be counting my green stuff,
However, with this economy, gas prices and people being cheap, it
doesn't take longer than 15 seconds to count up your money,
Vendors had to park at a lot over a mile away. Can
you imagine trekking all he way over there in 100 degree temps. THAT
SUCKS. Really!!

WOMAN USING
MEN'S TOILETS
There were several bathroom facilities and each of
them had a huge sign that said ...WOMEN ONLY. What the hell is going on
here? Of course, we had the porta potties and you know what?
They were pretty clean all day. Wouldn't that make you wonder
exactly who is messing them up if most of the ladies are using the
bathroom facilities?
That's a crock of U-know what! They
were being allowed to use the men's room also. What the hell....so
are they sticking their butts inside the urinals... or are they standing
in front and well...you know? |
Only reason we did this show is because of the way
the weeks' fell in September and we just happened to have an opening .
Trust me, I WILL
NEVER DO THIS SHOW AGAIN.
We decided to close early...5:30. No much
happening. We wrapped, etc, everything up and left the event. I had my
wife stay just outside the entrance to wait for me while I went for the
van. I ended up walking for about 20 minutes to reach it. THERE WERE NO
SHUTTLES!!! Over 100 degree temps.... SHIT!!!!
BASTARDS!!!
I finally reached the parking lot and hopped into
my scorching van and quickly drove out..
I saw that the road was blocked closer to the event and I had to detour. Oh
cripes.
I took a left and figured that I could circle around. Uh Uh
Uh...No way man. There was so much construction and detours around
and I had major problems reaching my wife. I felt like Chevy Chase
in one of his movies!!!! Preposterous. Wow. Detours
all over the place.
People...listen to the words coming out of my
mouth...I mean being typed with my fingers...this place is a #($*# mess and I wish that
I didn't have to go back to this hellhole on Sunday. Definitely
not looking forward to it and I have no intentions of ever doing this
event again. Totally SUCKS. Lots of people, but they don't buy a
#(*@))(# thing, Too stinking hot. All the people wanted to do is
to walk over to the food and the beer and sit near the water to watch
the boats race or whatever. Nice event if you live in Shitzburg,
but just another Tequila Sunrise!!
Recognized a lot of the vendors...and there were hordes of them and
lucky for the promoters of this event because there really wasn't much
else going on this weekend.
Sunday, Sep 7. We got there around 8:45 and ended up
getting a decent parking spot....like about 4 blocks away? Wow.
Much cooler weather with temps in the low 90s and
more of a breeze, thank gosh. Sales were good until early
afternoon, when it became warmer. Had a couple slow hours and then
picked up again and ended up around 50 percent better than Saturday.
This is a nice event for people to attend, as I
said before. They had an air show this afternoon along with boat races,
etc. However, from a vendor's viewpoint, it was terrible.
This is not a $300 show...more like $100-150. I asked quite a
number of vendors if they have done this show before and just about
everybody said no... and virtually all of these people said that they
weren't coming back next year. Ditto.
I parked my van on city streets today and couldn't
help but notice many empty storefronts and others with bars across the
windows, etc. Even the bars had bars!! This is the downtown
area people and it looks like holy hell. Construction, detours,
all over the place. Not a great place to live and I wouldn't even
want to visit here.
We began packing around 4:30 and had pretty
much everything down by 5:45PM, when I left to get our van. The
show was supposed to end at 6:00 and I knew that it would be a madhouse.
I walked to the van and drove past the area where the show was located
and found a place to 'get in line' to wait. They kept on saying
'10 minutes....10 minutes...' etc. and then we were finally let in
around 6:45. I was one of the first vehicles to enter and after I
had loaded up much of our things, I saw a huge, huge line of trucks and
vans waiting in line to drive in. A mess...one big ass ugly mess.
