This is a small-town street fair that draws good-sized crowds from
surrounding towns. Perhaps in the 30-40,000 range. I really praise the promoters of this event. This is
a very smooth-running event which is always enjoyable to do. It was a
little warm over the weekend and somewhat breezy at times. However,
over the years, we have had temps up around 100 and super-hot; have had
rain and even a Sunday completely rained out a couple years ago.
Decent crowds and they were buying
(on Saturday). Food booths run by non-profit organizations. Perhaps 100
vendors; quite a number of returnees.
This was our 13th year here...our longest running event!!!! Very well run; very organized. Other promoters should take
notes!!!! You check in on Saturday morning, get your paperwork
and head to your space. If you are new or have a new space,
then they walkie-talkie you down to your area and you are shown
where to set up at. Hassle-free setup; streets are wide and
vehicles can pass through easily. Parking is no problem; you
don't have to park a mile away like you do at the Pittsburg Seafood
Festival and have to walk to your car in 105 degree temperatures.
You can get a parking spot within a couple blocks of your selling
space. Show ends early on Sunday, which is great because as
you know, there are few people walking around after 2-3:00PM.
Years' past we have had rain and the people still came out to buy.
Smaller crowd on Sunday and they didn't bring their money. Did they
have any money? Probably
something to do with the position of the earth, moon, sun and Pluto, I guess. Back
to cheap ass Sundays. A good number of vendors still struggling.
I recommend that other promoters, Chambers of Commerce come here in 2009 and
take notes and learn how to run an event.
Another plus for most vendors is that there is no carnival here, so
there is more $$$ available for vendors.
