Tales of Woe

NIGHTMARE IN TUCSON......Dec 7-9, 2007

This was all a bad dream.  We left Hayward Wednesday AM and headed for an overnight stop in Indio.  As we approached Frazier Park up on the Grapevine (Hwy 5), It sounded like I had a flat tire.  I was hoping that the sounds/rattling was coming from a truck, but after allowing a couple to pass by, I realized that we had a problem and I edged my way over to the right hand lane.
Fortunately, we were right near the rest stop and we pulled into the parking lot.  I looked at my tires, but none of them were flat.  It sounded like I might have a brake or bearings problem, so we exited the lot and eased our way over to a service station in Frazier Park, where I was told that the caliper on the right hand side had slipped.  Fortunately nothing major and we were on our way within an hour.  Gosh, I envisioned us spending a day or two waiting for the van to get fixed.  Close call!!

We then drove over to Indio, where we spent the night and on Thursday, we drove the remaining distance to Tucson.  We stopped off at Rice Ranch in Tyson Wells and had some delicious Fry Bread and we were told of the impending rain storms approaching over the weekend, which is something I was quite aware of.

As we passed by Chandler on Highway 10, I recalled our nightmares there at the Ostrich Festival.  We arrived in Tucson around 12:30PM.  There was major highway construction going on and we were unable to exit to get to our motel.  Amazing...they had 5-6 exits blocked and we had to go several extra miles. For the next several nights, we had problems sleeping because they had very loud clanging in the pipes from water passing through.

We set up our space on Thursday and we had to deal with weather elements the entire weekend.  Rain, wind, cold, blowing sand, etc.  Didn't ever imagine that Tucson could have such lousy weather.  We had good traffic flow throughout the weekend, but nobody buying.  Very poor sales and people just encircled the booths, hands in pocket, eyes peering forward.
